At least 117 repentant terrorists from Borno State have successfully completed the Disarmament, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) programme under Operation Safe Corridor in Gombe State, a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in conflict-affected areas in Nigeria.
The successful graduation underscores the Federal Government’s sustained commitment to deradicalisation, rehabilitation and structured reintegration of former combatants as part of a comprehensive non-kinetic approach to counter-insurgency operations.
In a strategic move to consolidate security gains, the DRR initiative is expanding its operations to North West Nigeria. This expansion is aimed at strengthening community-based reintegration frameworks, preventing recidivism, and supporting long-term regional stability.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Government has formally requested the establishment of a DRR camp in North Central Nigeria, reflecting growing regional confidence in the programme as a credible pathway toward reconciliation, deradicalisation, and sustainable peacebuilding.
Authorities reaffirm that Operation Safe Corridor remains a critical pillar in Nigeria’s holistic security architecture, complementing ongoing military operations while promoting national unity, social cohesion, and durable peace.
