In a remarkable feat of academic excellence, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State, Nigeria, has been crowned the world’s top performer in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Competing against more than 20,000 students from 69 countries, Nafisa emerged victorious in the globally recognized TeenEagle English Language Skills Competition, earning praise for her exceptional command of grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and eloquence.

The TeenEagle competition is renowned for identifying and nurturing brilliant young minds with outstanding proficiency in English. The 2025 finals saw tough competition from high-achieving students across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa.

It’s an honour to represent Nigeria and Africa on the global stage. I’m grateful to my teachers, my parents, and everyone who believed in me,” Nafisa said after receiving her award amidst a standing ovation.

Her victory not only brings pride to Yobe State and Nigeria but also highlights the untapped academic potential within the region, often overlooked in global discourse.

Education stakeholders in Nigeria have lauded her achievement, urging increased investment in language education and youth development programs.

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State is expected to receive Nafisa and recognize her outstanding achievement, which puts Nigeria in the spotlight for academic excellence on an international scale.
