18-year-old To Appear In Court For Murder Of Fellow Learner In South Africa

An 18-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court for fatally stabbing a 17-year-old boy in Mphamme Village, Tzaneen.

According to the Limpopo police, the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, 26 March 2026.

It is reported that both the deceased and the suspect are learners at the same secondary school. The altercation is believed to have started on the school premises and later escalated.

During the confrontation, the victim was allegedly stabbed in the chest with a sharp object and was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect was apprehended on Thursday in Ga-Sekororo, Bismarck Village.

He remains in police custody and is set to appear in court on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the incident and called on parents to instill morals in their children.

“This tragic incident is deeply concerning, as it involves learners from the same school who should be focusing on their education and future. Violence among the youth, especially within and around school environments, cannot be tolerated. We call on parents, educators, and communities to work closely with law enforcement to address and prevent such incidents,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
