Liverpool could face a massive blow if Ibrahima Konate doesn’t renew his contract. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire in 2026.
Konate did start for the Reds in their opening game of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, which they won by 4-2 against Bournemouth at Anfield.
However, the French international is yet to renew his contract, and Liverpool are trying to convince him to extend his stay at Anfield.
The Reds fear that they will lose him for free, just like they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid this summer.
And the same club that signed Alexander-Arnold is also eyeing a move for the French star. However, Liverpool want to make sure they don’t make the same mistake twice.
That is why if Konate doesn’t renew his contract, then Liverpool are ready to sell him. They have also set a price at which they would sell the player.
Along with Real Madrid, the Champions League winners PSG are also interested in signing the defender. So, the Reds want to start a bidding war between PSG and Madrid.
Meanwhile, they are also looking to find the ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate. They want someone with Premier League experience.
Liverpool have already signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma. But the Italian is just 18 years old, and the Reds are eyeing an experienced centre-back.
That is why they are in talks with Crystal Palace to sign Marc Guehi. The situation of the England centre-back is quite similar to that of Ibrahima Konate.
Guehi’s contract will also expire next year. And the English international has accepted personal terms from Liverpool.
Now, the Reds are negotiating with Palace for a fee. And according to Fichajes, Liverpool are close to signing Marc Guehi as the ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate.
Once Liverpool agree a fee with Palace, things will escalate for the Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid deal.
