The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has charged fellow lawmakers to be thorough and transparent in the review of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

Obasa made the call on Thursday in a statement made available to DAILY POST.

According to DAILY POST reports, the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday presented the proposed budget for the 2027 financial year to the lawmakers.

Obasa, however, urged his colleagues to remain firm, fair, thorough and transparent during the budget review process.

Speaking at a three-day budget retreat of the Assembly held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Speaker said the governor had done his part and tasked lawmakers with discharging their own responsibilities without fear or favour.

Addressing participants at the event, themed “Budget of Shared Prosperity: Enhancing Accountability and Transparency in Lagos State Budget Process”, Obasa insisted that the waste of scarce resources could be curtailed if lawmakers diligently performed their oversight functions.

He said, “It now behoves you, as representatives of the people, to do your job with clinical efficiency, empathy, diligence, self-awareness, transparency, and conviction.

“The governor has done everything to convince us that they have done a thorough job on the Budget, but it is left to the Assembly to decide how we will go about appropriating the state’s resources to align with the demands and aspirations of every Lagosian”.
