BARRING last minute change in plan, the Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, will formally resign from the Peoples Democratic Party and defect to the All Progressives Congress on November 19.
A member of the ruling party National Working Committee revealed this to Nigerian Tribune in confidence.
Governor Kefas will be received in Jalingo by the national chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The source revealed that arrangement for the trip to Jalingo formed part of the discussion at the meeting of the APC NWC held on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat.
Checks revealed that Governor Kefas has dropped hint of his plan to dump the erstwhile ruling party, the PDP on Tuesday at a meeting with chieftains of the APC and PDP held at the Banquet Hall in TY Danjuma House, Jalingo.
He said: “Yes! A rumour is indeed circulating, and I’m also hearing that rumour. Sometimes, when a rumour keeps moving like that, it makes somebody think that it is something good. I am also hearing that rumour, and I am working on it to see that it becomes a reality.
“So, by the grace of God, in a few days to come after next week, you will hear from me. Let’s continue to pray. I want to assure everyone here, whether you are from APC, PDP, or any other party, that we are committed to doing justice.
“Let’s forgive one another. Let us think about how we can move this state forward. “
The APC source further revealed that apart from the Taraba state governor, the party has also opened discussion with his Adamawa State counterpart, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The source noted “the defection of Governor Fintiri is already a settled matter. After Taraba, Adamawa is next.”
Further checks by Nigerian Tribune revealed that in the last general elections, the APC won three states in the governorship election in the North East region, while its main rival, the PDP, also won three seats.
States currently undergoing the control of the APC are Borno, Gombe and Yobe States while the PDP controls Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa.
The North East, incidentally, is the region of the former vice president and the presidential aspirant in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar.
In the last presidential election, the PDP, which fielded Atiku Abubakar as its candidate, won five states in the region while the APC won in Borno, the home state of Tinubu’s running mate and incumbent Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
In Borno state, PDP scored 190,921 votes to APC 252,282 votes.
