Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the 2027 elections will be far from ordinary, emphasizing that ongoing opposition coalition efforts are serious and strategic.
In a statement shared on his social media handles on Tuesday, Atiku made the declaration during a courtesy visit by a delegation of Kannywood figures and prominent opinion leaders from the North West.
Addressing the delegation, Atiku asserted that the coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 is not to be taken lightly. “The opposition coalition being put together is not a joke, and it will soon be unveiled,” he said.
He described the coalition as a “deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people.”
The delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a notable Zamfara politician and head of the PAA 2027, New Media & Digital Communications Forum — a growing alliance of digital media stakeholders from the region. The forum includes members of the influential Kannywood industry, Zamfara TOP 10, and other civic groups.
According to Atiku, the delegation informed him of their ongoing efforts to support a united front of opposition political leaders in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. They cited concerns over the performance of the current administration and voter engagement gaps observed during the 2023 elections.
“Some members of the forum, who played roles in the election of the President Tinubu-led APC government, expressed deep regrets about foisting an incompetent and clueless leadership on Nigeria,” Atiku stated. “They have now pledged their full commitment to backing the coalition being formed by opposition leaders.”
Assuring the group of his resolve, Atiku concluded: “I assured the forum that 2027 will not be business as usual.”
The remarks come amid increasing political realignments and signals of an emerging broad-based coalition against the APC, as Nigeria braces for what could be a high-stakes general election in 2027.
