Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the scheme as financially wasteful and vulnerable to widespread abuse, insisting that courses previously funded abroad are now available in Nigerian institutions.
The BEA programme, which covered studies in countries including China, Russia, Morocco, Egypt, and Serbia, had seen its annual budget rise from ₦3.2 billion in 2022 to about ₦8 billion in 2025.
