The federal government has called on all Nigerians to unite against terror, warning that insurgents, bandits and other violent groups aim not only to kill and kidnap but to weaken national unity and erode confidence in institutions.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal at a special national security briefing in Abuja themed “Unite Against Terror.
Idris said the fight against insecurity cannot be won by any single institution. He urged partnership, trust and a shared purpose between security agencies and the public.
The minister advised Nigerians to remain alert, support security efforts with reliable tips, and reject narratives meant to divide communities along ethnic, religious or political lines.
Idris described recent abductions in Oyo and Borno states as a sobering test of the nation’s collective resolve.
President Bola Tinubu, the minister said, is fully committed to securing the safe return of all schoolchildren and teachers taken captive in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states.
Idris also reminded media organisations to exercise caution in coverage, urging them not to inadvertently amplify terrorists’ objectives by giving undue prominence to their atrocities.
