In what appears to be a major political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly in advanced talks to secure a high-profile defection in Osun State.
Insiders described the individual as a “marquee player”, hinting at a top-ranking political figure or influence shaper within the state. Sources close to the negotiations told The Nation that Governor Ademola Adeleke has been kept in the loop as formalities near completion.
“All paperwork has been signed, medicals have been scheduled—this one is practically a done deal,” a senior party official confirmed, speaking under condition of anonymity.
The new entrant, whose identity is still under wraps, is believed to have agreed to a long-term political deal valid until June 2031, with an option for renewal. The official unveiling is expected to take place in the coming days, with party strategists hoping to leverage the move ahead of future contests.
“This is a political Here We Go moment,” a top APC figure quipped, borrowing the signature phrase of popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
