A police officer has been arrested in Abuja after being caught attempting to transport a parcel containing live ammunition through a public motor park.
Inspector Kasimu Usman, attached to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the FCT Command, was arrested at Nyanya Motor Park on April 19, 2025, at approximately 3:15 PM, following a joint operation between police operatives and members of the Keffi Motor Park Union.
According to intelligence obtained by Leadnaija, the officers became suspicious of a parcel brought to the park for delivery to Lafia, Nasarawa State. Upon inspection, the package was found to contain an AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.
Inspector Usman was immediately taken into custody. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed that the ammunition was intended for another officer, Inspector Haruna Mohammed, who is currently serving with the 58 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Nasarawa State.
Police authorities say Usman remains in custody and is undergoing further questioning. An investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attempted delivery and whether additional officers are involved.
The Nigeria Police Force has not yet released an official statement on the incident.
Leadnaija will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as the investigation unfolds.
