The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced that its operatives, in a sustained effort to rid the nation’s capital, Abuja, of crime and criminal elements, have neutralised seven kidnappers, nine armed robbers, and apprehended three hundred criminal suspects, recovering exhibits in the process.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday at the command’s headquarters in Abuja, during a press briefing and display of exhibits.

According to Disu, the Command intensified its operations, carrying out a series of high-impact raids from 1 January to March 2025, stating that decisive actions, driven by intelligence and executed with tactical precision, led to the arrest of 300 suspects and the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and illicit substances.

Disu said: “In a decisive move against banditry and kidnapping, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command conducted clearance operations in known bandit routes and kidnappers’ hideouts at the following locations:

“During these special operations, seven kidnappers were neutralised, while several others were arrested. These proactive measures have significantly disrupted the activities of criminal elements operating along these notorious corridors.

“As a result of these sustained efforts, 300 suspects were apprehended and are currently undergoing thorough profiling and screening. Those found culpable will be charged to court, ensuring that justice is served, while those cleared of wrongdoing will be duly released.

“Total number of armed robbers arrested: 59. Total number of kidnappers and informants arrested: 10. Total number of armed robbers neutralised: 9. Total number of kidnappers neutralised: 7. Total number of cultists arrested: 16”.

Disu added that the foregoing operations also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit substances, including:

  • Eighteen AK-47 rifles
  • Twenty-three AK-47 magazines
  • Two CZ Scorpion A1 rifles with magazines
  • Nine English pistols
  • Seven pistol magazines
  • Two Dane guns
  • One hundred and sixteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
  • One hundred and two rounds of 9mm live ammunition
  • Seven live cartridges and one expended cartridge shell
  • Seven locally made pistols
  • Four locally made shotguns
  • Three axes
  • Four cutlasses
  • Fifteen daggers
  • Nine pairs of scissors
  • Thirty-one bottles of codeine syrup
  • Several small packages containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana
  • Large quantities of small glue tubes (inhaled as intoxicants)
  • Large bags containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana
  • Several locally made bongs
  • Cash sum of twenty-eight thousand, fifty naira (N35,050)

The Commissioner assured residents that the FCT Police Command remains resolute in its mission to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
