The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of insensitivity to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, saying the President has been more preoccupied with political ceremonies than protecting lives and property.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party faulted Tinubu’s remarks in Jos that his mission is to unite Nigerians, describing them as “political rhetoric” unsupported by his actions in office.
The opposition party expressed concern over rising banditry, abductions, and school closures across the country, pointing to recent reports of bandit attacks in Kwara and Kogi States, where communities were forced to pay ransom in food, drinks, and cash.
“While rural communities are being emptied and schools shut down, the President continues to attend funerals and ceremonies involving political associates. This sends the unfortunate message that the President cares more about political appearances than the lives of Nigerian citizens,” the ADC said.
The party also recalled that despite deadly attacks in Plateau earlier in the year, the President failed to visit the state at the time, preferring to issue directives from Abuja.
The ADC outlined five recommendations for tackling insecurity, including:
Formal acknowledgment of the scale of the crisis.
Honest engagement with affected states and communities.
Coordinated security deployments with local networks.
Regular public reporting on incidents and outcomes.
Transparent auditing of federal security funds. If You’re Reading From Phoenix Click On Read Original at the top To Read Full Article
The statement warned that Nigeria is “under attack” and urged the Tinubu administration to “stop treating national security as a political talking point” and instead demonstrate “responsible leadership, operational urgency, and measurable results.”
