The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the Governing Council and management of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, accusing them of taking undue credit for the recent developments at the institution.
This followed recent remarks by the Chairman of the College’s Governing Council, Dr. Lasisi Jimoh, and the Provost, Alhaji Akinleye Sarafadeen, who publicly praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for “reviving the college after years of abandonment under the APC-led administration.”
While hosting journalists at the campus last week, Dr. Jimoh alleged that the institution suffered neglect during the APC era, claiming vital assets such as the college’s water factory and cashew farm were “handed out for peanuts.” The Provost also highlighted completed projects since January 2024, including a 1,000-seater auditorium named after the governor, a new office complex for the School of Social Sciences, a tractor, a Hilux van, and two hybrid Toyota Corolla vehicles.
However, the APC in a statement by Kola Olabisi , Director of Media and Information countered these claims, stating that most of the highlighted projects were funded by federal intervention agencies specifically TETFUND and the I-IMPACT initiative — under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to the Olabisi , the Federal Government had approved a ₦2 billion intervention for the college, along with similar funds for five other colleges of education, six polytechnics, and six universities across the country.
Olabisi argued that attributing these projects to the state government is misleading, especially as the Adeleke-led administration has not provided significant funding to the college. “It is misleading and dishonest for the college leadership to suggest that the institution’s revival came solely from the state government,” the party stated.
The party further criticised Dr. Jimoh, alleging political bias due to his past association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he previously contested for a seat in the Osun State House of Assembly. They also noted that Jimoh was once disengaged during former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s tenure but was reabsorbed under ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s APC government.
“It is high time the board and management of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, distinguished between federal support and state government efforts,” the APC said. “The institution is yet to clear outstanding peculiar allowances owed to staff, making the narrative of a state-led revival even more questionable.”
The party concluded by accusing the college’s leadership of allowing political sentiments to override objectivity, insisting that the real credit for the school’s recent progress belongs to the APC-led Federal Government, not the PDP-led Osun State Government.
