The Super Eagles have solidified their position at the top of Group D in the AFCON qualifiers ahead of their final match against Rwanda on Monday.

Notably, the Super Eagles had already secured their ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations before this game even began, thanks to Rwanda’s surprising defeat to Libya.
Despite their qualification being confirmed beforehand, the Super Eagles showed determination and resilience during the match. Victor Osimhen, who plays for Turkish club Galatasaray, emerged as the hero of the day by scoring a crucial header in the 81st minute.
This goal rescued Nigeria from what could have been a loss and ensured they left the game with a point. Osimhen, who had missed several opportunities in the first half, redeemed himself with the late equalizer.
The goal came from an assist by substitute Moses Simon, demonstrating teamwork and persistence.
Galatasaray, where Victor Osimhen is currently playing on loan, was quick to celebrate his achievement. The club extended their congratulations to the striker through a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) page.
The message, written in Turkish, praised Osimhen for his performance. When translated into English, the statement read:

Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in outstanding form. He has scored an impressive eight goals and provided four assists in just nine games for the Turkish giants. His brilliance extends to his international duties as well, with two goals in three AFCON qualifiers for Nigeria.
Osimhen’s goal against Benin was also significant for his personal career milestones. It elevated him to the position of the joint second all-time highest goal scorer for the Super Eagles, alongside Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami. Both players now hold 23 goals to their names, a remarkable achievement for Osimhen at this stage of his career.
