Amnesty International Nigeria has criticized the Nigeria Police for their recent raid on the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
In a statement issued via their official X account, the organization condemned the police’s justification for the operation, describing it as a “vain attempt to justify a lawless action” aimed at intimidating the labor union.
Amnesty International Nigeria accused the police of operating outside the boundaries of the law, reinforcing their stance against what they perceive as an unlawful act.
On August 8, Amnesty International stated that the police raid ”appears to be part of a sinister and calculated attack designed to intimidate the labour union.”
“During the lawless raid, the armed security personnel ransacked books at the bookshop carrying all the materials into their van claiming that the materials were used to incite and organise the recent protest. We are deeply concerned about the safety of NLC officials,” the organisation said.
