The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a scathing response to recent criticisms made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing his remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as “mischievous, hollow, and driven by personal disappointment.”
In a strongly worded press statement released on Tuesday and signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party accused El-Rufai of engaging in “infantile politics” following his failed attempt to secure a ministerial appointment.
“Since his failed bid for a ministerial appointment, former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has gone into a political tailspin,” Morka stated. “His speedy fall from commanding heights to the political clown he has become needs forensic study.”
The former FCT Minister had, during a gathering in Sokoto on Saturday, August 2, criticized the Tinubu administration as incompetent, clannish, and undeserving of re-election — comments which the APC has now described as “the rants of an inconsolable sulker.”
APC said El-Rufai’s allegations are baseless, especially in the face of what it termed the Tinubu government’s “verifiable progress across all sectors,” highlighting economic recovery, increased oil production, and infrastructure development as key achievements.
“With a steady rebound in our economy and other indicators of verifiable progress — including the ongoing revolution in agriculture, a high-performing stock exchange market, increased oil production at nearly 1.8 million barrels per day, improved power generation and transmission, and the development of 420 roads and bridges — El-Rufai’s verdict of ‘poor governance and failed leadership’ falls flat,” Morka said.
The party also cited other successes such as the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), military modernization, trade surpluses, and declining inflation as evidence that the Tinubu-led government is performing better than El-Rufai claims.
Morka further accused El-Rufai and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is rumored to be aligning politically, of lacking a coherent policy agenda and being motivated by “oversized egos, desperation, and predatory presidential ambitions.”
“They bring nothing to the political table except wild entitlement mentality and the imposition of Atiku as the ADC’s presidential candidate, threatening national unity by attempting to disrupt the rotational presidency principle,” Morka added.
The statement also criticized the opposition, including former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, for allegedly flip-flopping on fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms which they previously supported during the 2023 campaigns.
In a sharp rebuke, the APC pointed to El-Rufai’s legacy in Kaduna, describing it as one marked by “obnoxious marginalisation, sectarian violence, weaponised demolitions, and massive debt,” calling him the “poster child of bad governance.”
The party emphasized that Tinubu’s administration is delivering transformational leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed its confidence in securing a second term in 2027.
“We are confident that Nigerians will sustain their support for our great Party and renew President Tinubu’s mandate come 2027, to consolidate on what now looks to be the most outstanding first-term record of achievement of any President in our nation’s history,” the statement concluded.
