A frontline social-political organization in Enugu State has demanded public apology from the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the vituperative remarks made against the immediate past Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by it’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi.
In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday by the national coordinator of Enugu Youth Coalition, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group threatened to ensure that PDP does not get up to five percent votes in any future elections; not only in Enugu State but in the entire Southeast Geopolitical zone if the party refused to tender a public apology to ex-governor Ugwuanyi.
The group accused Ibrahim Abdullahi of working for some faceless elements who feels threatened by the rising profile of Ugwuanyi in the scheme of things and advised the PDP to sack it’s deputy national publicity secretary for using the party’s platform to promote his personal business of mischiefs and political buccaneering.
Accordingly, there have been many defections from the PDP to the APC of recent but why single out Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for vilification if he is not useful?
The truth remains that these elements within and outside the PDP who are using Ibrahim Abdullahi knows the capacity, the value and the worth of Ugwuanyi and are afraid that he is bringing this value to President Tinubu and the APC family not only in Enugu State but in the entire Southeast region.
Ugwuanyi is not a bumptious political leader, but a quiet politician who achieves result without making noise about it.
This is a man who single-handedly funded the activities of the PDP in the Southeast region when the political tsunami spearheaded by the Labour Party ravaged the entire Southeast region in the 2023 round of elections.
This is a man who was able to deliver a Governor in Enugu State without federal might at a time many political juggernauts in the region fell to the tempestuous wave of the Labour Party.
This is a man who used his personal resources to finance and sustain the activities of the PDP in some states in Nigeria when the party became a leperous child that nobody wanted to invest in it.
These are few of the many values the PDP is sure of missing in the region which incensed these elements to use it’s deputy national publicity secretary to launch the verbal offensive against him.
If these elements likes, let them and their fellow shallow-minded folks continue to fire catapult of envy against Ugwuanyi, the truth remains that the astute and amiable political leader have left the PDP with his unparalleled value which he is bringing to APC not only in Enugu State but in the entire Southeast region and he is going to work in collaboration with other leaders of the party in the region to deliver unprecedented votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 Presidential election.
Whether these elements likes it or not, Ugwuanyi is a force in Enugu and no one can change that reality.
If these elements doubts our assertion, let them remove the masks on their face and come for a popularity test with former Governor Ugwuanyi on the street of Enugu to see who is the true man of the people.
Therefore, no amount of political tu-whit, tu-whoo by these forces of darkness can change the dynamics of politics in Enugu where Ugwuanyi is still the darling of the people.
