Residents of Unguwar Gambo and Gawo communities in Yaba Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, were thrown into mourning on Wednesday night after armed bandits launched a deadly attack on the villages.
The assailants reportedly killed and injured several people, abducted an unspecified number of residents, and rustled a large herd of livestock during the late-night invasion.
The incident occurred despite multiple peace agreements previously reached between the bandit groups and community leaders—agreements that locals say have repeatedly failed to prevent renewed violence.
This latest attack has once again raised critical questions about the effectiveness and purpose of such peace arrangements, which have often broken down even after assurances from both sides.
Residents are calling for urgent government intervention, stressing that relying on peace deals alone has not stopped the cycle of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of livelihoods.
