Bauchi State was thrown into mourning yesterday night after armed bandits launched a deadly attack on the Zalau community in Toro Local Government Area, killing a senior religious official and abducting his wife just two weeks after she delivered a baby.
Local sources told LeadNaija News that the attackers stormed the residence of a community volunteer and shot dead Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, the Discipline Officer of JIBWIS Zalau. His wife was seized during the raid and taken into the bush.
Expanding Banditry Heightens Nationwide Fear
The latest assault has intensified growing fears over the rapid expansion of bandit activities beyond their traditional strongholds in the Northwest.
Security observers warn that violent groups are now spreading their operations deeper into the Northeast and North Central, posing a widening threat to rural communities and overstretched security agencies.
Residents say the Zalau attack underscores concerns that no region is fully insulated from the escalating wave of insecurity, as bandit networks continue to test the limits of Nigeria’s security architecture.
