The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has assured that the on-going construction of the female hostel at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Boro Town will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
The Governor gave the assurance when he received the Director-General (D-G)of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the Government House, Yenagoa.
He directed the Commissioners for Agriculture and Lands to make land available to the Scheme for rice farming before the end of February 2026, just as he promised to look into a request for the provision of vehicle for the NYSC State Secretariat to aid its monitoring and inspection .
Diri, who commended the NYSC Chief Executive for his pragmatic approach to leadership of the Scheme, also hailed the Scheme’s contributions to the unity and development of Nigeria since its inception.
While noting that the prevailing security situation in the country could hamper the Scheme’s policy of deploying mobilized graduates to States other than theirs, he said all hands must be on deck to restore normality and allow eligible youths to enjoy the national service experience.
“The NYSC Scheme is a programme that cannot be wished away as its advantages far outweighed its challenges,” he added.
