Intelligence has revealed that terrorists under the leadership of Kachalla Bello Turji are in a desperate bid to replenish their dwindling ammunition stock to sustain their fight against the intensified military offensive around Fakai in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists are offering to buy each round of ammunition for as much as N7,000, reflecting the growing strain on their resources due to the ongoing military operations.
In a related development, another terrorist leader, Yellow Dan Bokolo, is reportedly planning to relocate from Kagara Forest to Jajjaye area of Sububu Forest near Kachalla Haru in Maradun and Shinkafi LGAs.
This move, sources said, follows Bokolo’s frustration over a lack of reinforcements from Turji’s camp and other allies during three recent assaults by troops on his enclave.
Dan Bokolo is said to have narrowly escaped during a raid by troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Gebe area of Kagara Forest on Jan. 20, when soldiers were searching for Turji’s mother.
Reports suggest that the terrorist group is experiencing severe distress and shortages of ammunition, prompting them to avoid direct confrontations with security forces.
Observers believe Turji’s recent release of kidnapped victims may be a strategy to divert attention and allow his group time to regroup and replenish their supplies through purchases or attacks on vulnerable Forward Operating Bases (FOBs).
The report calls for immediate action by troops involved in the ongoing operations, as well as relevant state government authorities in Zurmi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs.
