Some residents of Kano, Northwest Nigeria, on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over alleged blasphemous comments made by Islamic cleric, Sheikh Lawan Abubakar Triumph about Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The demonstrators gathered at the premises of the Kano Government House, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received them and addressed their concerns.

The controversy stems from a recent viral video in which the cleric was seen questioning reports in some Islamic texts about issues surrounding the birth of the Prophet.

This is not the first time the scholar made remarks about the prophet that sparked intense outrage in Kano.

“Insha’Allah, we will take action that does not contradict the Shari’a,” the governor said.

“What I want you to do is to go back and write a formal petition to the governor, which will then be used officially at every level,” he added. If You’re Reading From Phoenix Click On Read Original To Read Full Article
