Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, a senior officer and Commanding Officer in the Nigerian Army, was reportedly killed during a Boko Haram attack on a military base in Kukawa, Borno State.

The attackers also targeted residents in the Kukawa community. A military source confirmed Farouq and several of his men as casualties.
