The ripple effects of the ongoing calls for justice over the tragic death of Nigerian singer Mohbad continue to be felt in the entertainment industry.

In a bold move, hospitality brand Rod Apartment has officially terminated its ambassadorial contract with actor Jigan Baba Oja barely one month into a six-month partnership.

This comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding a WhatsApp group reportedly formed after the death of late singer Mohbad.

The announcement was made via an official statement posted on the brand’s Instagram page on Friday.

According to the management, the decision was influenced by the growing public concerns surrounding Mohbad’s death and the calls for accountability. The statement read:

“As an organization that stands for justice, integrity, and the rule of law, we cannot ignore the concerns raised by the public.

“We stand in full solidarity with the call for justice, and we openly support truth, transparency, and all ongoing efforts by VeryDarkMan and other well-meaning Nigerians to promote accountability and seek justice for the late Mohbad.”

The brand made it clear that their decision should not be seen as a declaration of guilt against Jigan Baba Oja. Rather, it was a strategic move to protect the values of the brand and align with the public’s demand for justice. The statement added:

“This decision is not intended to portray JBO as guilty of any allegations. However, as a brand that prioritizes the safety and trust of our guests, we believe it is important to support this movement.”

In an uncommon show of principle, the brand revealed that they will not seek a refund for the five remaining months of the contract. It concluded:

“Although we signed a 6-month partnership with JBO and are only in the first month, we are choosing to withdraw without seeking any refund. This is a decision made on principle, not profit — a true reflection of the values we uphold at ROD Apartment.”
