The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has recorded a political setback following the resignation of 14 former councillors from Bida Local Government Area.

The former councillors, led by former Speaker Mohammed Shafii, cited alleged imposition of candidates and a lack of internal democracy within the party as reasons for their resignation.

The group accused party leaders of sidelining members during the recent primary elections and expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s internal processes.

They also announced plans to align with opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections in a move to challenge the APC’s dominance in the state.
