Pensioners in Adamawa State are expected to start getting N40,000 each per month above what they currently receive.
This will translate to N44,000 per month to the least paid pensioners who are currently on N4,000 per month pay.
Making the disclosure on Monday in his office in Yola, the state Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, Mohammed Sali, said the pensioners were trusting Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to fulfill his promise to the effect that every pensioner will have N40,000 added to his pay.
“The governor is a man of his word, so we expect that soon as the ongoing verification of pensioners is over, pensioners ascertained to be genuine will start receiving the new pay,” the NUP chairman told members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists who contacted him for an update on the condition of pensioners in the state.
The NUP chairman said the pensioners verification exercise which was started to address instances of government paying pension to deceased pensioners, among other leakages, is necessary to block such leakages and conserve public funds.
“We see sense in government ensuring that ghost pensioners are removed from the system, and we are sure that soon as this is done, the money to effect the new pension policy will be effected,” Sali said.
He disclosed that his union is also optimistic that the N5 billion naira promised by Fintiri to offset outstanding gratuity of state government pensioners and N3 billion for local government pensioners will similarly be released after the verification.If You’re Reading From Phoenix Click On Read Original To Read Full Article
