The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has officially issued a notice of withdrawal of services, directing all airport workers across the country to cease operations effective from 05:00 AM on Monday, 11th August 2025.
The union’s decision signals a nationwide shutdown of airport activities, including ground handling, security, and passenger support services, potentially crippling air travel operations across Nigeria.
In the circular released to aviation stakeholders and government agencies, NUATE cited unresolved grievances and alleged neglect of critical welfare issues affecting airport workers.
“This withdrawal of service becomes necessary due to persistent disregard for the rights and welfare of our members across Nigerian airports,” the union stated.
The union emphasized that the industrial action is indefinite and will continue until all pending demands are addressed.
Travelers have been advised to prepare for potential delays, cancellations, or disruptions to flight operations starting Monday morning.
Efforts by the Federal Ministry of Aviation to mediate the dispute are reportedly ongoing, but no formal agreement has been reached as of the time of filing this report.
