Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men posing as police officers while transporting a large consignment of cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out under *Operation Lafiya Nakowa*, took place at Takum Junction, where two Toyota Hilux vehicles were intercepted. According to the Army, the vehicles contained 1,134 blocks of substances suspected to be cannabis.
Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, said the arrest followed credible intelligence.
The suspects were identified as 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.
Both were dressed in mobile police uniforms at the time of their arrest. Preliminary investigations confirmed that neither is a serving police officer.
Authorities believe the drugs originated from Akure, Ondo State, and were bound for Adamawa State before being intercepted in Taraba.
Another group of suspects, also traveling in a Hilux vehicle, reportedly abandoned their vehicle and fled on sighting the troops. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
