Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State is expected to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) tomorrow, barring any last-minute changes.
According to sources, discussions surrounding his move included a proposed 60/40 power and structure sharing arrangement, though it remains unclear whether the governor successfully secured the terms through the APC National Chairman, Professor Newante Yilwatda.
Despite the uncertainty over the final agreement, Mohammed has reportedly concluded plans to formally join the APC at a ceremony scheduled for tomorrow. The event is expected to be attended by key stakeholders and leaders of the ruling party from across the federation.
His defection would further strengthen the APC’s hold among state governors, raising the number of governors in the party to 32.
If confirmed, the opposition parties—the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Accord Party—would be left with one governor each, significantly reshaping the country’s political landscape.
Meanwhile, former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has called on party leaders to support the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as efforts continue to restore peace within the party.
