In a major political shake-up, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The development was confirmed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, in a statement on Wednesday morning.
Although the Governor has not yet disclosed his next political move, sources close to Government House hinted that the decision followed “extensive consultations” with key political stakeholders in the state.
This marks another significant defection from the PDP, coming just days after Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Analysts say the wave of defections may signal a growing realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
