Concerned citizens gathered at the Adjamé Town Hall Square in Abidjan to protest the recent withdrawal of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The demonstrators, comprising civil society groups, youth organizations, and other stakeholders, expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision, which they argued threatens regional unity and cooperation. Holding banners and chanting slogans, the protesters called for the reinstatement of the three countries in the regional bloc.
“This decision weakens ECOWAS and jeopardizes the shared economic and security goals of the region,” said one protester, emphasizing the need for dialogue to resolve tensions.
