The annual CottonFest, founded by the late award-winning rapper Riky Rick, has officially come to an end.
The festival, which continued under the leadership of Riky Rick’s partner Bianca Naidoo following his death in February 2022, was announced to close due to disagreements among current shareholders.
Earlier this year, organisers had announced the 2026 festival, but differences in long-term vision among shareholders have now made it increasingly difficult to uphold the standards set by the late rapper.
Bianca Naidoo expressed pride in the festival’s achievements over seven years, highlighting its role in showcasing youth talent and fostering community and cultural celebration.
In a statement, organisers cited differing long-term visions as a strain on operations, making it difficult to uphold the standards set by the late rapper.
While CottonFest will no longer continue in its current form, its Creative Programme, launched in 2025, will carry on supporting young artists.
