The ongoing trial involving activist Omoyele Sowore and Sahara Reporters once again failed to commence at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday.
The matter, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, stalled after the Nigeria Police Force admitted that it had yet to serve charges on Sahara Reporters, the second defendant, despite securing an ex parte order.
Sowore, in a post shared via his official X page, described the development as another “wasted day on the altar of frivolities by an incompetent Police Force led by an illegal IGP.”

His legal team, led by Barr. Tope Temokun (Tope Temokun Chambers, Lagos), included Barr. Marshal D.F. Abubakar (Falana Chambers), Barr. Rosemary Hamza (Deji Adeyanju & Co.), Barr. Chike Anago, and Barr. Sunday Adebayo (Pelumi Olajengbesi’s Law Corridor).
The lawyers argued that the charges were “incompetent, unconstitutional, and a product of vendetta.”
Barr. Abubakar further reminded the court of provisions of the Police Act (2020), which prohibits officers from abusing their office for personal grudges.
He urged the court not to fix any date for arraignment until these fundamental breaches were addressed.
Justice Nwite thereafter adjourned the case till September 15, 2025 for further hearing.
