Pay-TV giant, DStv, is set to introduce a new sports-only subscription package in a strategic move to recover from a significant drop in its subscriber base across Africa.
Sources within MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, reveal that the company has lost millions of subscribers in recent quarters, largely due to rising costs, economic pressures, and increasing competition from digital streaming platforms. The upcoming sports-only plan is aimed at catering to viewers who are primarily interested in sports content—particularly football, which remains the most-watched category on the platform.
Industry analysts say the move could help DStv retain its core sports audience and provide a more affordable alternative for customers unable to pay for premium packages.
While an official launch date and pricing details are yet to be announced, expectations are high that the package will include access to Premier League, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and other major sporting events that have long been a DStv hallmark.
MultiChoice is expected to unveil more details in the coming weeks as it finalizes the rollout of this targeted offering.
