The Council of the European Union has formally added the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran to the EU terrorist list.
This landmark decision was taken following a political agreement reached on January 29, 2026, and officially confirmed today, February 19.
What This Means:
· Asset Freeze: All IRGC funds and financial assets within EU member states will be frozen.
· Funds Prohibition: EU operators are strictly prohibited from making any funds or economic resources available to the group.
· Sanctions Regime: The IRGC will now be subject to the full range of restrictive measures under the EU’s counter-terrorism sanctions regime.
This listing adds the IRGC to a list that now totals 13 persons and 23 groups and entities.
The decision is a significant escalation in the EU’s stance toward the organization and will have far-reaching implications for its financial and operational activities within Europe.
