The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to property owners in Abuja who violated land use terms to pay a fine of ₦5 million or risk losing their properties.

According to a statement released on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the directive affects properties in key areas of the city, including Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse districts.

Wike said the grace period begins on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, adding that all affected allottees must regularize their land use approvals and settle all related fees within the period.

“Failure to comply within the stated 14 calendar days grace period will result to enforcement actions by the FCT Administration,” the statement warned.

The Ministry explained that several property owners had previously ignored the first public notice issued in September, which gave them 30 days to pay the required penalty for unauthorized land use conversion.
That initial deadline, according to the statement, expired over a month ago.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the affected streets include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama; Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro; Aminu Kano Crescent and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II; as well as Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II.

Others listed are Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street in Garki I District.

Wike also approved the issuance of new title documents — including Statutory Right of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy — to affected property owners who meet the payment and documentation requirements.

These new titles will reflect the updated land use and will be valid for another 99 years.

However, the statement clarified that the exercise will not cover lands previously revoked for reasons such as non-development, non-payment of ground rent, or other violations.
