The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved several new and revised road contracts worth over ₦914 billion, covering key highways and infrastructural projects across the country.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced the approvals after the council meeting, explaining that the revisions reflect design upgrades, challenging terrain conditions, and inflationary pressures — particularly the rise in the price of reinforcement steel, now exceeding ₦1.1 million per ton.

Among the major projects approved are:

Sokoto–Badagry Coastal Superhighway (Section 3) – 163 km stretch from Badagry to the Ogun–Oyo border, valued at ₦553 billion, fully constructed in concrete.

East–West Road (restructured) – Port Harcourt–Warri axis, including three flyovers and two bridges, continuing the inherited ₦156 billion project with two new flyovers at Abuloma and Refinery.

Umahi disclosed that the governors of Edo, Delta, and Abia States have taken responsibility for financing and executing selected federal road projects within their states.

He said the initiative would ease the fiscal load on the federal government and speed up project delivery nationwide.
