The Federal Government has announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to enable urgent repair works on critical bridge sections along the busy corridor.

The announcement was made through the Federal Ministry of Works, which disclosed that the repair works will focus on the expansion joints at Kara, Magboro, and Arepo–Punch bridges.

According to the ministry, the partial closure is necessary to address safety concerns and prevent further deterioration of the bridges, which serve as key links between Lagos and several parts of the country.

The government noted that the repair works were initially scheduled earlier but were temporarily suspended to ease traffic congestion, especially during peak travel periods. However, recent assessments have made the intervention unavoidable.

Motorists using the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway have been advised to expect traffic diversions and delays during the repair period and to consider alternative routes where possible.

The Ministry of Works assured road users that traffic management measures will be put in place to minimize disruption and ensure safety throughout the duration of the repairs.

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s most important highways, connecting the nation’s commercial hub to the South-West and other regions.
