The Federal Government has commenced a comprehensive personnel audit of civil servants with the aim of building a verified digital database and eliminating ghost workers from the system.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Information and Public Relations in her office.
According to her, the audit, which is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, seeks to reposition the civil service into a more modern, efficient, and transparent workforce.
The exercise will capture each employee’s Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN). It will also assess the size, structure, and skills available within the service, while identifying gaps in critical areas such as ICT, project management, public finance, and data analysis.
Walson-Jack noted that the initiative would address record discrepancies, ensure accurate workforce data, and align staffing with future service demands.
She further announced that she would chair a steering committee comprising key permanent secretaries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, representatives from the Presidency, and relevant consultants.
The personnel audit is expected to strengthen accountability, block leakages, and enhance the efficiency of public administration.
