The Federal Government has inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC) Technical Sub-Committee on Livestock Development, reaffirming its commitment to reposition the sector as a key driver of economic growth, food security, and national cohesion.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who inaugurated the committee at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, explained that the mandate is to harmonise existing policy frameworks and accelerate the development of an actionable roadmap for consideration and adoption by the National Economic Council.
The technical sub-committee, which he chairs, was created to support the high-level committee led by Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris, given the demanding schedules of state governors.
The Minister emphasized that President Bola Tinubu views livestock development as central to Nigeria’s economic strategy, food security, and agricultural productivity, noting that effective livestock development requires collaboration across federal, state, and local governments, with his ministry serving as the coordinating secretariat to ensure aligned implementation.
