The Federal Government is set to put an end to the sale of flight tickets in U.S. dollars by foreign airlines operating in Nigeria, according to the President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Mr. Yinka Folami.
Folami disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that discussions between relevant aviation authorities and the airlines are at an advanced stage to enforce compliance with Nigeria’s monetary regulations.
He emphasized that the practice of selling tickets in foreign currency violates the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directive and has contributed to the rising cost of international travel for Nigerians.
“The Federal Government has assured that this issue will soon be resolved. Airlines will be mandated to sell tickets in naira, not dollars,” Folami said.
He added that NANTA is working closely with the Ministry of Aviation and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to ensure a smooth transition that protects travelers and strengthens the naira.
This development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to stabilize the nation’s foreign exchange market and curb dollarization across key sectors.
