BREAKING: Governor Aiyedatiwa Inaugurates Ondo Diaspora Smart City Technical Committee

The Ondo State Government has taken a major step toward realizing the Ondo Diaspora Smart City Project, a flagship initiative designed to create a world-class residential and investment hub for Nigerians in the Diaspora and other global investors.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa formally constituted the Ondo Diaspora Smart City Technical Committee, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to innovation, sustainable urban development, and Diaspora engagement.

The committee, chaired by Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, includes Permanent and Administrative Secretaries from key ministries such as Infrastructure; Lands and Housing; Environment; Commerce and Industry; Physical Planning and Urban Development; Justice; Culture and Tourism; and representatives from the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).

Speaking at the inaugural meeting in Akure, Akinlosotu hailed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s visionary leadership, describing the project as a key pillar of the administration’s OUR EASE Agenda, aimed at creating a business-friendly, inclusive, and livable state.

He noted that the Smart City will attract Diaspora investments, create jobs, boost tourism, and strengthen the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“The Smart City initiative will not only attract Diaspora investment but also promote innovation, green infrastructure, and redefine urban living in our state,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr. Emmanuel Omomowo of ONDIPA emphasized the importance of private sector participation and sustainable financing models to ensure long-term success.

Envisioned as a Diaspora-driven, technology-enabled city, the Ondo Smart City aims to position Ondo State as a leader in Nigeria’s digital economy, green innovation, and urban modernization.
