BREAKING: Labour Party Denies Issuing Ultimatum to Peter Obi

The Labour Party has debunked reports suggesting that its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has been issued a 48-hour ultimatum to resign from the party over his involvement in recent coalition talks and the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja.

In a statement issued and share on X page earlier today by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, the party described the report as “misleading” and the individuals behind it as “political jesters” without any legal or institutional standing.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of the Labour Party, on May 26, 2025, publicly declared its full support for Mr. Obi’s involvement in the coalition efforts aimed at creating a robust political alternative to rescue Nigeria from the disastrous misrule of the APC. That position has not changed,” the statement read.

The party clarified that Obi’s attendance at the ADC unveiling and participation in coalition-building talks were carried out with the full knowledge and backing of the party leadership.

The statement further dismissed those behind the purported ultimatum as impostors who, according to the party, have been sacked by the Supreme Court and suspended for engaging in anti-party activities.

“It is the remnants of the disorder and mess left behind by these impostors that the current leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman continues to clean,” the party said.

Labour Party urged the public and the media to disregard any statement not emanating from the office of Senator Usman, who it said remains the only legitimate authority on party matters.
