The Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, has sealed a construction site and issued a 72-hour ultimatum to another property within the Lekki-Ikoyi corridor for alleged unauthorised development.
The agency stated that adherence to building regulations is essential to curb the rise of illegal structures and ensure the safety and orderly growth of Lagos.
The enforcement operation took place on Thursday, when LASBCA officials sealed a building under construction at Femi Okunnu Road, Alexander Avenue, after the developers reportedly failed to obtain the required permits.
In a statement shared on X, the agency confirmed that it also issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart to remove all illegal structures erected along Coastal Road and beneath a powerline.
Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Abiodun, explained that the affected space was originally designated as a parking area but had been converted for commercial purposes without government approval.
“The occupants allegedly turned the site into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without proper authorisation,” Abiodun said.
He added, “Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change in the use of government-allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the master plan of the state is respected.”
The General Manager of LASBCA, Gbaye Florence, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuous monitoring and enforcement across all development zones in the state.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that all buildings in Lagos meet safety standards and comply with global best practices. Anyone who erects structures without due approval will be identified, marked, and subjected to appropriate enforcement action,” she said.
LASBCA emphasized that its statewide enforcement drive will continue as part of efforts to eliminate illegal developments and promote a safer, better-planned Lagos.
