In what authorities are describing as an “act of targeted political violence,” a Minnesota state representative and her husband have been shot and killed, while a state senator and his wife were wounded in a shooting incident that has sent shockwaves across the state.
Governor Tim Walz confirmed the incident in an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over what he called an “unthinkable attack on our democratic institutions and public servants.”
The identities of the victims have not been officially released pending notification of their families, but sources close to the matter confirm the individuals were active lawmakers.
“This was not random. This was targeted political violence,” Governor Walz said during a press conference. “We will not allow violence and intimidation to undermine democracy in Minnesota or anywhere in this country.”
