The Russian government has recently passed a law allowing the call-up of military reservists to support operations abroad. This applies in cases of armed conflict, counterterrorism efforts, and other deployments of the Russian Armed Forces outside the country.
Reservists include people who have signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense to be part of the mobilization reserve, as well as those who have previously been called up for military training.
The move marks a shift as previously, reservists could only be mobilized during full-scale war or official mobilization. Now, the law allows for more flexible use of reservists in overseas operations, with provisions for special training periods of up to two months accompanied by additional pay.
This legislation emphasizes that only those in the contract mobilization reserve—not all registered reservists—are subject to these call-ups.
