Starting October 1, 2025, Nigerian immigration authorities will launch a nationwide enforcement exercise targeting foreign nationals who have overstayed their visas or violated entry conditions.
The crackdown will apply to:
Holders of expired Visa on Arrival (VoA).
Holders of expired Single or Multiple-Entry Short Visit and Business Visas.
Individuals with expired Comprehensive Expatriate Residence Permit and Automated Card (CERPAC).
According to officials, penalties for violators will include fines, deportation, and re-entry bans.
Less than 3 months overstay: Deportation, a $15 daily fine, or a 2-year entry ban.
3 months to 1 year: Deportation, a $15 daily fine, or a 5-year entry ban.
Over 1 year: Deportation and a 10-year or permanent entry ban.
Authorities emphasized that the enforcement is part of efforts to strengthen border management and uphold Nigeria’s immigration laws.
