North Korea is expected to convene its Party Congress in the coming days, in what is regarded as the most significant political event in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The Party Congress, organised by the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, is the highest decision-making gathering in the country’s political calendar.
In recent years, it has been held once every five years and brings together delegates from across the country.
The congress is expected to serve as a major policy-setting platform where Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un will unveil a new five-year national development plan, outlining North Korea’s domestic and foreign policy direction through 2031.
According to analysts, the plan will likely cover key areas including political governance, industrial growth, scientific advancement, social development, and military strategy, at a time of continued international sanctions and regional security tensions.
The last Party Congress, held in 2021, introduced sweeping economic and defence priorities, making the upcoming gathering closely watched by regional and global observers.
Further details on the official opening date and agenda are expected to be announced by North Korean state media.
