The Nigerian Police on Friday announced that it had killed three kidnappers and arrested 17 others within the last two months in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said the suspected kidnappers were arrested after an in-depth investigation by the police.
Speaking during a press briefing, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao said the command carried out a thorough crime mapping to identify some of the hotspots within the territory.
Ajao said the police further implemented an action plan which resulted in the arrests and successes recorded by the command between May and June, 2025.
According to Ajao, during the period under review, 49 classes were reported to the FCT command.
This, he said, led to 82 arrest of suspects over various crimes.
In addition, there were five cases of attempted kidnapping, one in Apo and four in Kubwa.
The police report noted that four vehicles, a jack-knife, military camouflage and pistol ammunition were recovered in the process.
Also, the FCT command said it recorded five suspected cases of armed robbery within the period under review.
Eight suspects involved in four different cases of child trafficking were arrested.
Three AK 47 rifles with three magazines, one locally made pistol and magazine, one Beretta pistol, one pump action shotgun, two LAR rifles and 36 rounds of live ammunition were also recovered by the police within the same period.
